I came across AirBnB the last year. If you have never heard of it, it is an online service that matches people who are willing to rent out their extra bedroom for short term and the people who are looking for such places. For example, imagine you want to stay in the NY City for a week but cant afford the hotels. Also, imagine there are a few people in the city who have an extra bedroom, which they are not using and would like to rent out for a week. The problem is that you don’t know these people and they don’t know you. You don’t trust Craigslist neither do they! AirBnB is the service which will bring you together. Because of its user reviews, similar to Amazon, AirBnB is much more trusted than Craigslist.
AirBnB is becoming really popular and growing fast. GigaOm reports that today, you can rent even a tree house, a castle, a lighthouse or a houseboat on AirBnB, which lists rooms from 9,000 cities in 170 countries! That’s pretty awesome considering that AirBnB is just 3 years old!
Here is a video where the CEO Brian Chesky talks about his experiences, struggles, strategies, and the future. At one point he says that because they were using his San Fransisco apartment as office, he had to move out. At that point, he used his own service and stayed at 30 different places over 6 months! This experience helped him to observe many small things which led to improvements and innovation. Enjoy the video, it is very interesting.Vodpod videos no longer available.
